When she was a student at the university Sarkeesian was fascinated by the issue of gender identity and women's rights in the early stages. A woman with ambitions to start a web-series examining the gender-based representation in video games was targeted in an internet-based campaign. The attack wasn't enough to stop her. In fact, it increased her importance as a feminist and media critique. Sarkeesian has been awarded several awards for her contributions to the cause of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winning media critic. She also serves as the director and founder of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit group that focuses on pop-culture representations of females.
