
Hanks in his next role - the astronaut and commando Jim Lovell, in the docudrama Apollo 13 (1995) - brought him back together with Ron Howard. The film's performances and Kevin Bacon's performance were highly praised by critics. The movie also earned nine Academy Award nominations, winning two. Hanks was the voice actor for Sheriff Woody in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated film Toy Story (1995). A year later the director made his debut in the musical comedy That Thing You Do! (1996) about the rise and decline of a 1960s pop group in addition to playing the role of a music producer. Time magazine's Richard Schickel described his performance as "charming" and the majority of critics agreed that Hanksacting performance earned him a spot among the best romantic-comedy actors of the time.
